No Diplomatic Immunity WITH GOD!

“The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.”
Ezekiel 18:20 KJV
Over the past few months I have seen three different pastors and their wives being displayed in the news regarding their sexual sin. One who is from a world renowned family, the other has become well known in his own right, and the other not so well known, yet all are in the same position – their sin exposed before the world through media outlets. All bearing shame and trying to back pedal out of the situations with “creative” wording (lies) to attempt to make them look less guilty or delivering quick apologies. Christians are expected to live by the words that they preach, even if they are not the standards in which others believe or by which others live. Often leaders in Christian circles present as “super-human” and even if they do not the world places them in the super-human category. I am not here to judge or defend their humanity, yet rather to point out that we all fall short and are too quick to expose the obvious. There have always been fierce vocalization surrounding sexual sin of any kind and there are other sins that we quietly ignore. Those who profess a belief in God tend to forget that He is “just” not “fair” and that there is no diplomatic immunity with Him.
“(16) These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto Him: (17) A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, (18) An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, (19) A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.”
Proverbs 6:16-19 KJV
As we read these particular verses of Proverbs, listed among them is not one sexual sin. That is not to say that He condones them; however, there are things that He hates and finds utterly more disgusting. Pride, lying, killing the innocent, concocting plans that will hurt others and those running to carry them out, gossiping, and causing hatred among people are all things He hates and finds deplorable. We need to hold Christian leaders, World leaders, and one another to that standard! Do you think that your title, your profession, your income bracket impresses Him enough for Him to give you a pass when you carry out acts that he despises?! He is not interested in what you have or what you can do … He sees sexual sin on the same level as lying and gossiping. There is no diplomatic immunity with God.
“And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thy own eye? Thou hypocrite, first cast the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt though see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye.”
Matthew 7:3,5 KJV
We stand in judgement of one another and require from others more than we require of ourselves. We look for an extension of mercy in areas where we do not extend the same. These behaviors and attitudes have little to do with being a Christian as much as it has to do with being human. People want to “catch a break” yet are reluctant to give the same. Let me also state to the Christian, we can never do enough or have enough good credit with God that we are entitled to sin without consequence. We must always remember that we are “saved” by grace not by our “works.” Those of us who profess that we are in His service do not mean more to Him than those who have not “received Christ” – meaning we (humanity) are all His – those who are covered by a profession of Christ and those who have not come to that decision yet. There is no diplomatic immunity with God!
“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;”
“Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.”
Romans 3:23 & Galatians 6:1 KJV
Sexual sin is not to be looked upon lightly; however, neither is sin of any kind. If we are going to point the finger and pass judgement as though we are above reproach then we need remember: when we point the finger at someone else, there are three fingers and a thumb directed back at the pointer. If we would spend more time hoping the best for one another rather than waiting for the other shoe to fall so that we can say “aha, caught you slippin'” then we would avoid the hurt of being found in our own dirt – as all that is done in darkness comes to the light. Remember Christians we are called to be instruments of reconciliation. There is no Diplomatic Immunity with God! Immunity is reserved for all who repent!
